Summer 2016

Welcome to the second issue of the Lynx News Links newsletter.  Lynx provides media connectivity software that allows consumers to quickly and securely discover their media libraries stored in the home, control them from any mobile device, and enjoy them on any screen or speaker.

Below, you'll find interesting items on what we've been up to at Lynx, and how we can help your organization deliver compelling media use cases to your customers.

Lynx is now in Japan!

In addition to North America, Asia and Europe, Lynx expanded operations into Japan this past March. We're excited to be serving our new customers in Japan from our Shinigawa office in Tokyo.  See the News Release here

  • Twonky 8.3 - Our latest version of Twonky, Version 8.3, implements a new "diskless server" feature. This is a very useful feature for router or gateway manufacturers that want to provide a media server, but do not have local storage for media files on the device.  For consumers who have media files stored on multiple USB drives, this new feature stores the media file database for each USB drive on the drive itself. The diskless server feature will support the database on multiple USBs the consumer may swap in and out. We have also improved the file scanning performance on USBs, as we only scan new items since the USB was last plugged in. Twonky 8.3 also now supports beaming to Chromecast devices from Windows, Linux and MacOS.
  • New Product! The Lynx Media Player for Android TV - Designed to be embedded in an Android STB or Android TV, our new media player provides a TV-oriented user interface that is based on the Google Leanback Library. Learn more here

  • Twonky for NAS App Stores - Do you offer 3rd party applications for your NAS in your own branded app store? We have packaged a version of the Twonky Server that is ideal for this delivery method. Contact us at to learn more.

Hot Topic

Did you know Lynx can act as your provider to protect the transmission of Premium Content between connected home devices?

It's true. Our Twonky solution comes with a premium version, which incorporates DTCP-IP (Digital Transmission Content Protection over IP). This encrypts the digital connection between devices. For instance, with DTCP-IP, you can securely stream recorded premium TV channels to other client devices such as a second TV or mobile device. Lynx also manages its own IT infrastructure for the provisioning of DTCP keys to authenticate a device as DTCP compliant.

  • Germany-based Sphairon (a Zyxel company) also recently chose Twonky to be embedded in wireless routers.
